Cara Shamess

Cara specializes in construction law and provides legal counsel to various members of the construction industry, including owners, developers, lenders, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, and engineers. Cara advises and represents clients on a wide variety of construction-related legal matters that involve drafting and negotiating front-end procurement and contract documents, bid disputes, day-to-day construction project advice, construction liens and lien actions, bond claims, claims for breach of contract, breach of trust, negligence and delay, settlement negotiations, and mediations.

Prior to joining Wilson Vukelich in 2020, Cara practised construction law at a number of boutique and full-service law firms, and she was Construction Legal Counsel at the University of Toronto.

Involvement & Recognition

Cara lectures annually at the John H. Daniels School of Architecture, Landscape and Design, at the University of Toronto, and is a past lecturer for the “Law and Construction Contracts” course at George Brown College. Cara regularly speaks at seminars and writes on construction law topics. She is also a member of the Toronto Construction Association / Construction Institute of Canada Professional Development and Accreditation Committee.

When outside of the office, Cara enjoys travelling and spending time with her family, two dogs and retired dressage horse.
