Christine’s practice is divided between labour and employment law and tax litigation. Christine is dedicated to providing her clients with creative and effective solutions, in a responsive manner.
In regard to her labour and employment law practice, Christine represents unionized and non-unionized employers in all aspects of labour and employment law. Christine is thoroughly versed in issues surrounding the employment relationship from hiring, discipline, compensation, performance management, workplace health and safety, human rights, through to termination. In regard to her unionized clients, Christine has acted as the lead negotiator in collective bargaining and has effectively represented employers in regard to grievances and arbitrations. Christine is frequently engaged in the preparation of employment contracts, manuals, and policies, conducting workplace investigations, and providing client training workshops. Prior to joining Wilson Vukelich, Christine articled with the Ontario Ministry of Labour.
In regard to her tax litigation practice, Christine represents individuals and corporations in their disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency. Christine has successfully represented clients at the objection stage, at the appeal stage before the Tax Court of Canada, on applications for judicial review before the Federal Court, on rectification applications, for remission orders, and in regard to requests for taxpayer relief. Christine is particularly focused on positively resolving business related tax disputes, such as the improper assessment of independent contractors as employees, the denial of valid business expense claims, shareholder benefit assessments, and director assessments.
Involvement & Recognition
Christine sits as an elected member of the Board of Trustees for Lakeridge Health. In addition, Christine is a member of and actively involved in various associations, including being a member of the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers’ Advocacy Committee, a member of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s Policy and Advocacy Committee, and the Chair of the Ajax Pickering Board of Trade’s HR Committee. Christine was also the 2018 and 2019 President of the Ajax Pickering Board of Trade and the 2020 Chair of the Ajax Pickering Board of Trade.
Christine regularly moderates and speaks at programs on labour and employment topics and tax litigation topics, including events held by the Ontario Bar Association, the Human Resources Professionals Association, the Professional Engineers Ontario, the Ajax Pickering Board of Trade, and the Oshawa Chamber of Commerce. She also writes on various labour and employment issues and tax litigation issues.
Christine enjoys travelling and has been on trips to Ireland, England, Norway, France, Germany, Italy, Egypt, Belize, several Caribbean islands, several Greek islands, and the Galapagos Islands. Christine is also an avid runner, regularly taking part in local half-marathons.
